Amy Flannery, Writer and Director
Amy has been working in video production for 15 years. She got her start at Yellow Cat Productions in Washington, DC, in 1991. Thanks to Michael Ford, president of Yellow Cat, Amy enjoyed 12 years there as a producer/director and camera person. She worked primarily on documentaries, corporate, and government videos. Amy currently freelances as a camera person and writes screenplays that she hopes will appear one day on the big screen.
Amy was inspired to write Run Cody when she was smacked in the face by an apple thrown through the open window of her car as she drove through Capitol Hill one night. The pain and shock caused her to slam on the brakes and jump out of the car. Angrily confronting the five or six kids standing nearby, she tried to divine which one was the guilty party. They all shrugged their shoulders innocently.
“Why don’t you all go home and do something useful with your lives, like read a book!” she cried out.
A hail of objects descended on the car as she drove off. She immediately felt like a jerk for screaming at them realizing that if any of them had a decent home to go to, they wouldn't be wilding in the street after 11 p.m. on a week night. She wondered what their lives were like and what would become of them without anyone to guide them through this treacherous and complex world.
Run Cody is an homage to those kids who haven’t been given the love and supervision from adults that they need and deserve.
May they remain pure and hold on to their dreams.
